Accessibility statement for Public-i Connect Webcasting Application

This accessibility statement applies to the Public-i Connect Webcasting application.

This website is run by Public-i (opens in new window). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet (opens in new window) has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not yet fully accessible:

  • Subtitles are not provided for live video and audio content
  • Pre-recorded videos do not have an alternative audio track containing an audio description
  • Links within the Google map component do not have sufficient target size or spacing
  • Some embedded social media content may not be accessible - unfortunately we have no control over this

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Pre-recorded videos within the Webcasting application do not have an alternative audio track containing an audio description. People who are blind or have low vision as well as those with cognitive limitations, may have difficulty interpreting visually what is happening within the pre-recorded videos. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.5 (audio description). Due to the estimated costs of implementing audio descriptions for pre-recorded videos, this cannot be fixed and is classed as a disproportionate burden.
  • Links within the Google map component of the ‘Map’ tab on the Interact Webcasting page are smaller than 24 by 24 CSS pixels. People may have difficulty in confidently targeting or operating these small controls. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.5.8 (target size (minimum)). This is a 3rd party component and cannot be fixed.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We plan to have regular accessibility testing with an accredited third-party and improve accessibility on this website.
